Great find! Vintage carpet bag in a front-flap closing, satchel
style. Colorful, too, with a swirl of primary color tulips
against black. The handles are lined in black vinyl and the
bottom is black vinyl. The carpet part is appropriately scratchy
wool. Lined with heavy, tightly woven black, nylon twill. Two
inside pockets, one with a zipper. The bag is large. You could
even call it roomy! 11 1/2" wide by 8 1/4" high by 5" deep.
Handles have a 5" drop. They are attached, on hinges, 4" down
the front of the bag, so they swing freely. Excellent condition.
I don't believe it was ever used.

Many people believe that the Mulberry company, of Great Britain,
was one of the most influential bag makers in that last half of
the 20th century. If that's so, it's got to be at least partly
because of their magnificent quality. This bag is an excellent
example. Heavy yet extremely pliable, black, "scotch grain"
leather, plus heavy brown belting leather, and plaid fabric for
lining, all joined with immaculate stitching.
This bag is MARKED! There's the Mulberry leather label sewn
on the lining, the oval Mulberry tree patch sewn on the upper
front, plus three marked zipper pulls! 13" wide by 9 1/2" high
by 4" deep (at the base, due to tapering side gussets.)
Adjustible strap is 33" long and can be made shorter with the
buckle. Four heavy, stainlesss steel feet. Excellent vintage
condition. It's been used, but there is no damage.

Great find! Warm, dark burgandy leather satchel that's marked
with a long "S-z------ of -----" signature/logo. Measures 12"
long by 7 1/2" high (not counting handles) by 4" deep. Handles
are 6" high. This is thick, stiff leather, like that of a John
Romain or Etienne Aigner handbag. Heavy brass closure is marked
"Pat. Pend." but doesn't have a maker's mark. All rivets are
brass, as well as the four ball feet. The bag is lined with
matching leather and it has one, rather large, pocket with a
metal zipper. Absolutely mint, never used. Still smells like
new leather. This bag will last for ever! You can will it to yo
great-granddaughter.

The key to this incredibly graceful bag, of course, is the
shape and cut. The gently scalloped top and rounded base are
beautifully engineered, so that it sits squarely and is perfectly
balanced. Notice, too, the immaculate top stitching, the
leather covered frame, and the pristing interior! Off-white kid
leather with three pockets, one with a metal zipper. 11" wide
by 7 3/4" high by 2" deep. Handles are 6" high. Near mint!

The great thing about these "hippie" purses is that they weren't
made by any company, you know. They were made by independent
leather workers all over the country. It's amazing that they
all look so much alike! This one is slightly unusual because
it's more of a rectangle than a square or a circle. (I think it
would be much easier to keep your things organized in this style.
This one--I swear--is one of the best one we've ever had, because
it's so understated. No gaudy painting in yellow and red, and
no deep, too-bold tooling. This bag just has an elegant, subtle
hand tooled design on the flap--along with, of course, the hand
done stitching, the great latch/clasp, terrific leather, and a
great design. 9" wide by 6 1/2" high by 4 1/2", with a 34"
shoulder strap, complete with a shoulder guard. Gently curved
along the back to fit to your body. Wonderful patina. Absolutel
excellent vintage condition. It still smells like new leather!
(This is a very high-end bag. Much better than average.)

Very cute "hippie" tooled leather shoulder bag, this one
just slightly on the small side and with a charming, rather
girlish design. 8 1/4" wide by 8" high by 3 1/4" deep, with
a 34" braided shoulder strap. (How DO they braid the leather
without open ends?) Very good condition. There's some ink on
the underside of the flap. The bag also needs some leather
moisturizer. It's pretty dry. I've treated it twice, but it
could use a couple more treatments. (We use the Coach lotion,
but any reputable brand will do.)
